Pet Portraits

Pets are family.

Just like a brother or sister, mum or dad, a pet can have you shouting in one moment and melting the next.

A portrait allows us to appreciate a pet at its best.

Their defining expressions.

Their unique character.

And their unquestioning willingness to be a part of our lives.

On the rest of this page, you’ll find information about the process, timings and costs of a pet portrait.

I hope you’ll find the answers to any questions below. But if not, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at: scottbrenmanstudio@gmail.com

Process

Step 1: Back and Forth

The first stage of commissioning a pet portrait is a relaxed chat. You might have a clear idea of what you want, or you might still be working it out. It doesn’t matter. In this initial chat my aim is to see if I can do justice to your ideas and intentions.

We'll likely discuss the best photo(s) to base the portrait. The chat most often takes the form of a back-and-forth on e-mail. I’ll only accept a commission if I think I can create something wonderful.

Step 2: Options and Invoice

Once we’ve had an initial chat, I’ll prepare you a recommendation. I try to include a few options in my recommendations. For example, I’ll give you the option of different canvas sizes. Once we’ve agreed the details of the commission, I will send you an invoice for 50% of the total amount. The remaining 50% is due once you’ve received the painting and you’re happy with it. I accept bank transfers or PayPal.

Step 3: Mock-up and Check-in

For all commissions I start by creating a digital illustration. This helps me get a feel for the colours and the composition of a commission. Once I’m happy with the illustration, I’ll e-mail it to you. At this stage you’ll have a very clear idea of how the final piece will look and yet this is also the best time for you to make any comments or suggestions. Once we’re both happy, I move to the next stage.

Step 4: Painting and Framing

Once I've got going, I'll send you regular photos of the painting via WhatsApp or e-mail. When I’ve finished, I’ll send you a photo so you know what the final piece looks like. I then carefully wrap the painting and arrange a convenient time for delivery.

Prices

The price of a pet portrait is determined by its size, complexity and the time it will take to complete. I strive to price fairly: reflecting the time, materials and care that goes into each one. I’ve given an indication of prices below. Suffice to say, I will provide a detailed, non-obligation quote before I start working on a commission.

Framed A2: From £1,250
Framed A1: From £1,500
Framed A0: From £1,750

Timings

I operate a first-come-first-served policy, as well as a wait list.

Before confirming your commission, I will discuss timings with you. As a rule of thumb, a painting will take a minimum of four weeks.

If you are really tight for time, I can often have an illustration printed on to a card for you to give on the day of the birthday/wedding/anniversary, with the promise of the painting to follow. Please discuss this with me at the time of booking.

Shipping

UK shipping is included in the price. If I can, I like to deliver paintings in person. If that’s not possible I use a courier. I can ship internationally – however, I charge this at cost price. This is something to discuss at the time of booking.
